Lexington, KY - Students checking into dormitories for the new school year at the University of Kentucky will have a new reference tool to help them start off right: the 2009 Better Business Bureau Accredited Business Directory will be distributed in all campus dormitories Monday, August 17th, in time for "move-in day."
"Young people need the help and advice of the Better Business Bureau as much as their parents do, especially in today's economy," said Neil Kingery, President and CEO of the BBB of Central & Eastern Kentucky. "Whether they need ethical businesses to repair personal computers, buy cell phones from, fix their cars, provide banking services, even travel agencies to plan spring break trips…the BBB can help guide them to reputable businesses."
The Directory also contains tips and advice about scams that can target financially struggling college students who can least afford to lose money. "Scams relating to mystery shopping, work-at-home, foreign lotto, advance fee loans and identity theft can all make a student's life a nightmare," said Kingery. "We hope our BBB advice and contact information being made available to them can help them avoid these cons so they can concentrate on furthering their education and having a fun year in college."
The BBB Directories will be dropped off at campus dorms on Monday, August 17th, where they will be available in the lobbies for students moving in later in the week. The BBB will also have staff available in front of Kennedy Bookstore across from campus on Monday, August 24th to hand out alert and tips information, BBB magnets, and to answer questions about how the BBB can help students.
